Opening of New Munich Trade Fair Center and ICM
February 12, 1998: An important day in Munich's history. The largest construction project since the Olympic Games in 1972, the New Munich Trade Fair Center officially opens. Thanks to the ICM (International Congress Center Munich), the city also gains new significance as a congress venue in Europe. Among the 5,000 guests: German President Roman Herzog, Italy's Prime Minister Romano Prodi, Bavarian Minister President Edmund Stoiber and Munich's Lord Mayer Christian Ude. The official opening is followed by a nine-day program of opening events for the general public.
